The HCSAS is industry funded for use by the heavy construction industry and can assist contractors in preventing accidents and losses.

Contact the HCSAS for assistance:

  • To hold on-site safety meetings
  • To enrol in the Safety Certification Program
  • For WHMIS, TDG, Confined Space Entry and other training programs
  • To audit your construction operations and determine safety deficient areas
  • To discuss any safety or health matter in confidence
  • For assistance in complying with Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety Regulations

Safety Programs

All companies with more than 10 employees (peak employment) in the heavy construction field must have a safety program that meets the requirements of Section 22 of the Occupational Health & Safety regulations and include:

  • A written health and safety policy (including a statement of responsibilities)
  • A means of identifying and controlling hazards and emergencies
  • An emergency response plan
  • A plan for scheduled inspections
  • A plan for controlling chemicals and biohazards
  • A training plan for all employees including supervisors
  • A policy for investigating all accidents and incidents
  • An occupational safety and health committee Regularly evaluate and revise your program (audit)

For companies with nine employees and under, a safety program should include:

  • A means of identifying and controlling hazards and emergencies
  • An emergency response plan
  • A statement of responsibilities
  • A plan for scheduled inspections
  • A training plan for all employees including supervisors
  • A policy for investigating all accidents and incidents
  • A means of ensuring worker involvement in the safety program
